Westminster Police said that a man took a picture of his baby on Monday,
posted it to Facebook, and then shot and killed the girl before
shooting himself.The baby's mother called police around 9:35 a.m. and said that when she awoke, her former boyfriend was standing next to her with a gun.
The mother, Kimphone "Kim" Phanthavongsa, 21, told police she had an altercation, and she ran out of her apartment located at 7030 Stuart Street.
She called police from a neighbor's apartment, saying her former boyfriend, Merrick McKoy, 22, had a gun and was in his apartment with her son.
Westminster police investigator Wayne Lee said that when officers arrived, they heard gunshots. He said he found a child and an adult male with gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to a hospital. Police confirmed that 19-month-old Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa died.
Police said McKoy had an active restraining order prohibiting him from being in that apartment.
The McKoy Facebook page shows a photo of the man and the girl just before the shooting.
