The police in Lagos have arrested two
robbery suspects, who allegedly raided an apartment in Magodo Estate in
the Isheri area of Lagos, carting away yet-to-be-estimated money and
valuables.
It was learnt that the two
robbery suspects─ Daniel Ikong and Pius Dennis ─ allegedly connived with
the household’s housemaid, identified simply as Mary, to successfully
raid the house.
It was gathered that while
22-year-old Ikong and Dennis, 20, were apprehended by the police near
the apartment, the housemaid evaded arrest and fled with the booty. The
suspects were arrested on Thursday, November 27.
Ikong and Dennis, it was further learnt,
were initially apprehended by policemen attached to the Isheri division
before they were transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for
further interrogation.
It was gathered that, Ikong,
who hails from Ogoja, Cross River State, said the housemaid was his
girlfriend, adding that she invited them to come for the operation.
According to him, Mary informed them that her boss just brought home some gold jewellery and money.
He said, “I was staying at Sagamu, Ogun State. I am a commercial okada
rider. I was dating Mary before she came to Lagos to work as a
housemaid in the house. Later, I came to Lagos and stayed with a friend,
Francis.
“Two days before the incident, Mary told
me and my friends that her boss brought gold and money into the house,
adding that we should come and rob her.
“We got to the house around 7pm. It was
Mary who opened the door for us. She showed us round the house. We
collected the money and the gold. We had earlier tied up the boss in the
sitting room.
“As we were making our way out, members
of a vigilance group, who had also alerted the police, came after us.
Eventually, we were rounded up, but Mary escaped.”
Dennis, also from Ogoja, said the
housemaid gave them two kitchen knives to threaten her boss, adding that
they did not inflict any injury on her.
He said, “That was my first time of
robbing anyone. The girl was Ikong’s lover. She planned everything and
asked us to come. We used two kitchen knives which she gave us to
threaten the woman; we did not injure her.”
The police said the knives used by the
suspects had been recovered. It is also gathered that Mary,
who escaped with the gold jewellery and money stolen from the apartment,
had yet to be found.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Efforts are on to also arrest the fleeing housemaid who allegedly brought the robbers.Beware my people
