The wife of a computer dealer, Adeniyi
Asubiaro, has urged government authorities to arrest a police inspector,
Akeem Skoda, attached to the Lion Building Division on Lagos Island,
for allegedly killing her husband.
The widow, 24-year-old Idiyat, who gave
birth to a baby girl on Friday, lamented that her husband’s death had
shattered their plans as a couple and truncated their union, which
started barely a year ago. On November 26, the 32-year-old Asubiaro
had just come back from a mosque and was relaxing in front of his home
on Oshodi Street, Lagos Island when he was felled by a stray bullet
reportedly shot by Skoda.
It was reported that Skoda was part of a
police patrol team that raided the street after a birthday party went
violent on November 20.
However the Lagos State Police Command had refuted the allegation, claiming the name (Akeem Skoda) was not in its database.
But a source close to the police confided in our correspondent that Skoda’s real name is Akeem Sodiq.
While narrating to our correspondent, the
effects that Asubiaro’s demise had on the family, Idiyat said, “I feel
very pained. I never thought our marriage would be this short. His death
thwarted all our plans while I was pregnant. We just rented an
apartment and planned to move in as soon as I give birth to the baby. It
is unfortunate he did not live to see his daughter.
“I am pleading with the government to
ensure that the officer is arrested and prosecuted because my husband
was neither a party person nor a thug. Skoda must not be allowed to go
scot free. He has made me a widow when I am supposed to be enjoying my
marriage.”
May God help this woman
