Two die during ‘spiritual bath’ in Lagos

Two brothers have died in the Ajah area of Lagos after they reportedly went to have a ‘spiritual bath’ at a white-garment church.

It was gathered that the deceased persons, Abiodun and Ayinde Oniru, had gone to the church situated on Ori-Oke Ibukun Street, Ilasan in Ajah, .to seek spiritual help on Thursday, December 18. The 23-year-old Abiodun and Ayinde, 20, were reportedly told to go and have their bath at a stream in neighbouring Ogombo area where they got drowned during the bath.
The the matter was reported to the Ogombo Police Division, and the police stormed the church on Saturday to arrest the church pastor, identified simply as Olusoji who took to his heels, which led the police to arrest the assistant pastor, whose names had yet to be known.
It was learnt that after the two brothers were discovered dead, some other church members withdrew from the church.
The victims corpses have been deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary, Yaba, where an autopsy would be done.
It was learnt that the police were still on the trail of the church pastor.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had arrested the assistant pastor.
He said, “It is confirmed, and the police have arrested the assistant pastor, who doubles as the church secretary. Meanwhile, investigation continues on the matter.”
