Secondary school pupils found floating on Osun River

The residents of the Ijetu area of Osogbo have been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the corpses of two pupils on the Osun River.

It was gathered that a woman had gone to the river to fetch water when she found the corpses of the two pupils floating on the river.

A resident of the area told our correspondent on Thursday that the woman dropped her bucket and ran back to the community where she raised the alarm.

It was learnt that the matter was later reported to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and a rescue team from the agency was deployed in the scene.

Man jumps off Third Mainland Bridge And drowns

A man, identified as Okechukwu Ezeigbo, has drowned in the Lagoon after taking a dive from the top of the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday.

The Imo State indigene was said to be among several passengers in a commercial bus heading towards Obalende, on the Lagos Island area of Lagos State, when the incident happened.

It was learnt that the victim suddenly asked the driver of the bus to stop and before anyone could realise what was going on, he hurriedly put off his shoes and dived into the Lagoon.

50-year-old widow jailed three years over hard drug

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 50-year-old widow, Nwakpa Nwore, to a three-year-jail term over unlawful possession of Cannabis Sativa, a hard drug similar to Cocaine.
Justice C.J. Aneke handed down the sentence after Nwoke had pleaded guilty to one count bordering on the offence.

Woman dies of bird flu in Egypt

Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, spokesman, Egypt Health Ministry, said on Monday in Cairo, that the country has recorded another death of bird flu, the fourth in the country this year.
He said a 47-year-old woman in Assiut province, a rural area where an avian flu death was reported last week, has also died of the virus.

A 20 year old man has been arrested for having sex with a goat - admitting to police that he has been with animals at least 10 times before. Malam Kamisu, 20, told cops he prefers sex with animals to women.
Police in Jigawa State, Nigeria, said they arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly having sexual intercourse with an animal in the Dutse area.
Malam Kamisu was initially picked up by the village head and handed over to the police. Kamisu, who is said to be the goat's owner, explained it was apparently not his first time of having sex with animals in the bush.
The NahUsabi news website reports Kamisu apparently admitted to officials that he preferred bestiality to sex with women, because the animals satisfied his sexual desires.
